About

Michael DeVellis is a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, who has been playing professionally for over 20 years.  He began his musical training on the violin, and eventually shifted his main instrumental focus to jazz saxophone.  Michael went on to play professionally with a number of live acts around the world.  He has also produced a number of his own EP's and full length albums for various record labels around the world.  He is now focusing his musical talents on composing for film and television.  Michael first appreciated the power of a score at four years old while listening to the playful, orchestral stylings of Scott Bradley for Tom and Jerry.  He received his B.A. in Music from Tufts University and his Master's Degree from Touro College.  More recently he completed a Master’s Certificate in Orchestration for Film and Television at Berklee College of Music.  As a composer he relishes the opportunity to shape and intensify the viewer's experience of a film employing styles from classical to bebop to acid jazz to electronica.  He has composed and placed songs in a number of promotional videos on MTV including spots for Wendy’s, Clearasil, and Secret.  He has also placed music in a number of brand marketing spots for Guess, Mark Ecko, Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings, Nickelodeon, and Sarkany, among others.  DeVellis has scored several short films and has won several commissions, the most recent of which will be performed at Carnegie Hall in 2019. Michael lives with his wife, daughter and son in Brooklyn, NY where he is the Director of Bands at James Madison High School.
